The Irish Kidney Association is a charitable voluntary organisation founded in 1978. We are dedicated to meeting the needs of renal patients and their families and carers, living with and affected by end stage renal disease. These needs are spread across all aspects of life – medical, social and psychological.
The profile of the kidney patient ranges from infanthood to the elderly who are undergoing various methods of treatment – haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis (both CAPD and APD) and kidney transplantation.
We deliver a broad range of services ranging from the individual, such as holiday dialysis, counselling, sport and patient support, to the community, such as supporting our Branch network and advocacy on behalf of the renal community.
Our Impact
The Irish Kidney Association is dedicated to transforming the lives of kidney patients and those at risk of kidney disease through a range of impactful services. Our advocacy efforts have successfully influenced healthcare policies, such as prioritising kidney and transplant patients in the Covid-19 vaccine rollout. We champion organ donor awareness, reaching millions and engaging thousands through our annual campaign. Our patient accommodation has supported over 1,000 individuals visiting hospitals for transplants. We provide extensive counselling, a Living Well Programme and a Peer Support service to meet rising demands for mental health services. Additionally, our patient holidays and dialysis abroad programmes offer much-needed respite and support to hundreds of individuals and families annually. Financial assistance through our Patient Support Fund also aids those in need.
